Describe the model before the headline amount
A compensation conversation is easier when both sides understand the structure. Explain whether the role uses a salary, a production component or another arrangement approved by your practice. State which elements are guaranteed and which depend on defined conditions. A headline number without context can create different expectations between the candidate, recruiter and employer. This guide does not provide an New York City salary benchmark. Use current information appropriate to the role when setting amounts and obtaining internal approval.
Connect compensation to the working pattern
Explain the schedule attached to the offer, including working days, expected clinical hours, weekends and any after-hours responsibilities. For a leadership appointment, identify how management duties and clinical work fit into the compensation discussion. If the role covers multiple hospitals, make travel and site expectations visible. A candidate should not have to discover a material scheduling condition after comparing offers. Ensure the person approving the package understands the responsibilities it is intended to cover.
Prepare explanations for conditional elements
Where production contributes to compensation, prepare the definitions and calculation process the employer will use. Where a bonus, relocation payment or development allowance has conditions, explain those conditions accurately and have the appropriate adviser review the documentation. Distinguish an established benefit from a possibility still being discussed. Keep written descriptions aligned with the eventual offer and employment documentation rather than relying on a recruiter to interpret incomplete or inconsistent internal instructions.
Give the recruiter an approved range of discussion
Decide which terms may be discussed, what flexibility exists and who can approve changes. If market feedback suggests the package is not attracting suitable candidates, reassess the role, schedule and support as well as compensation. Avoid treating pay as the only reason someone may decline. Business Executive Group can discuss a search using the employer’s approved brief. Search fees, candidate screening and employment terms remain separate matters to agree with the relevant parties before commitments are made.
